Soft191 Duplicate File Finder

Locate all duplicate files on your computer. Duplicate files can have the same name but different contents, or the same contents but different names. Some files are space wasters (identical in size and contents but stored on disk under different names). Other files with the same name can be different versions of an ActiveX control or DLL (dynamic link library) - which can cause system problems.

You select the path to search, and select a comparison method (at the very least "Filenames" or "Sizes"). You must also select a group of files to locate. This can be a wild card like *.* (all files) *.DLL (for all dynamic link libraries) readme.* (for all readme files) or a whole filename like myprog.exe.

Compare filenames
Will locate files which have the same name. Either this and/or the "Compare sizes" option must be selected before a search can be conducted.

Compare sizes
Will locate files whose size is the same. Either this and/or the "Compare filenames" option must be selected before a search can be conducted.

...also compare contents
This option can be selected when you have also chosen "Compare sizes". It will compare the contents of all files matching the search criteria. Some files may be of the same size (and even name) but have different contents. This option slows down the search but will confirm which files on your system are true duplicates.

Compare last modified date/times
Will help refine a search by making sure the date and time of any files found also match up.

The program can compare any folders, files and file extensions to an 'ignore list' meaning that they will be ignored (not displayed) by the program.
